Yesterday while sitting at work I received a text message from my husband telling me not to start on dinner when I got home from work and not to change out of my work clothes and into my pajamas (he knows me well). Curious as to what he was up to, I asked him what was going on and he simply replied back, "date night."
I had been begging him for a couple of weeks now to drive around with me one night and look at all the Christmas lights. It seems that my begging paid off because when Steven got home from work yesterday he grabbed my hand and pulled me out to the car so we could get started with our date night.
First, it was off to dinner at a delicious pizza joint in our neighborhood and then we drove around several neighborhoods looking at all the lights. For some reason it seemed like less people decorated for Christmas this year. We didn't see nearly as many houses lit up as I've seen in years past. Maybe we just hit all the wrong neighborhoods. No worries though, I'm planning to drag Steven out once again before the holidays are over, so maybe we will catch more lights on the second time around.
We may be married now, but Steven and I both still see the importance of date nights and romantic gestures. We had so much fun last night driving around town, sipping on hot chocolate, and looking at all the pretty Christmas lights. These are the kind of nights that I will look back on in twenty years and smile. These are the kind of moments that make me stop and appreciate all that I've been given.

I love looking at all the holiday lights. I agree, it seems like less people are putting them up. I'm surprised by this since we live 2 blocks over from a school, so I know there are tons of kids in our neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteLove this! You've got a keeper :) We are planning to do this exact same thing tonight - unfortunately with a few errands thrown in, too but I still can't wait to check out some lights!
ReplyDeleteThat is the sweetest thing I've heard all day! By the way, I can totally relate to the whole "change into pajamas the moment you walk in the door!"

I love driving around and looking at Christmas lights! And I was thinking the same thing, it seemed like there were fewer houses decorated this year compared to past years as well, such a bummer.
