15 Things I Vow To Do In 2015

1.06.2015

I don't really like the word resolutions. Maybe it's because I've never been one to make and then stick to my New Year's resolutions, but they've never really been something I've been that interested in. This year was no exception. I didn't think up some great resolution that I vowed to stick to as soon as the clock struck midnight on New Years Eve, and I certainly didn't change anything about myself when I woke up on New Years Day.

I have been giving it some thought though. I still don't necessarily like the word "resolution," but I like the idea of setting goals for myself and then achieving those goals. So, six days into the new year I've finally come up with a few goals that I would like to achieve in 2015.

If these don't get done by the time we're ringing in 2016, please do me a favor and don't remind me of this post. Deal?
1 || Wake up earlier during the work week. I started this yesterday, and I am amazed out how much better I feel after waking up 30 minutes earlier, doing a few chores around the house, and not feeling rushed out the door. The first two days were a success, so let's see how long I can keep this one up.

2 || Meal Plan. I did this for a few weeks several months back, and I really enjoyed it. Not only did it keep me organized during the week, but it really saved us money as well. The problem is setting aside the time on Sunday afternoons to get it done, but I'm definitely going to give it a try.

3 || Stick to an exercise program. (Cue the cliche eye rolling) It's not that I don't enjoy working out, it's just that I don't enjoy going to the gym after a long day at work, fighting traffic to get home after the gym, and then finally walking into my house around 7:00 at night. I miss the days in college where I could wake up at 9:00, walk downstairs to the apartment gym, work out for an hour, and still have time to shower before class.

4 || Purchase more "work appropriate" outfits. Okay, so this one probably won't happen, but at least I'm making an effort by putting it on my list. The thing is, I really hate "corporate" clothing. It's just not me. Mark my words, I will never own a pant suit.

5 || Put more money back into savings. It has to happen.

6 || Be more spontaneous. I can be described as a lot of things, but spontaneous isn't one of them. This type A girl needs a plan and needs to stick to that plan. Nothing stresses me out more than the term "go with the flow." I guess it wouldn't kill me to let loose and do something spontaneous every now and then, would it?

7 || Keep the house organized all year round. I tend to go on cleaning sprees about once a month where I not only deep clean the house, but I also organize like crazy. I throw away things I haven't used in a while and I reorganize the closets. This is great when it happens, but the organization usually only lasts a week or so before chaos ensues once again.

8 || Take more pictures. I used to be really good at this. I was constantly snapping pictures of anything and everything. I've started slacking in this area a bit, and I'm kicking myself for it. 2015 will be the year of the pictures.

9 || Learn to love the kitchen. Possibly. Maybe.

10 || Branch out in terms of my wardrobe choices. i.e. stop wearing all black all the time

11 || Complete more home projects. Our house is so close to being where I want it to be, but we still have several small and one big project left.

12 || Read more books. I just started reading the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day. Have you heard of them? Think 50 shades of Grey, but better writing. I'm hooked!

13 || Take more bubble baths. There really isn't anything more relaxing than a good book, a glass of wine, and a bubble bath. This needs to happen more in 2015.

14 || Stop stressing over things I can't control. It's as simple as that.

15 || Be a better blogger. Consistency is key and consistent is something I'm currently lacking. I'm working on it.

  2. The waking up earlier thing is huge. HUGE. I always wake up way earlier than I need to so I have some "me time" or a chance to get something done before I have to start working. It sets the tone for my entire day. I agree with the meal planning thing. I have a love/hate relationship with it. But it saves SO much time, money, frustration, etc when I actually stick to it--so it's on my list this year to get better at too!

  3. Wow! These are awesome. I also need to work on organization, blogging, and sticking to a fitness routine. But I’m right with you – after a long day of work, I hate the idea of going to the gym and getting home late. Plus with my two puppies at home in crates, I feel bad leaving them for that long. I told myself that I’m going to start going to the gym at 5:30 AM…. We’ll see how long I can keep this one up! Haha but luckily a gym is opening in my office building!

  4. *WHEN* (see that positive 2015 thinking?!?) you figure out how to love the kitchen, can you pretty please pass on how you did it?

  5. I think you have an awesome list here!!! Meal planning is something that just comes so naturally once you get used to it for a few weeks. Especially since you are a planner, it should be even easier for you to pick up! It takes me about 20 minutes to pick my recipes, write out my list, and see if I have any coupons and go through the Cartwheel app (since most of our shopping is at Target.) Once you have everything mapped out, you might really start loving the kitchen as well because it wont seem so overwhelming! Plus it will help you with your savings goal!

Pictures is something I need to get better about! And for about a year now I have been waking up early and getting stuff done before work. I cant imagine my life not doing that now. Isn't it wonderful to feel so accomplished so early??

When you find a workout routine you like, let me know. I want to kill Jillian right now.

  7. I am a die hard meal planner since I have had to stick to a budget the past few years. I actually do mine on Saturday morning and grocery shop Saturday mid-day, since the store is less crowded and I have the incentive to get it done to get pretty for Saturday night date night! I am also going back to my old school planner to help me be better at scheduling my workouts- if they are built into my day, no excuses right?

  8. Hahah I couldn't agree more with #1. I'm still trying to convince my manager that leggings are most definitely work place appropriate.

  10. These are awesome! I've been trying to wake up earlier and actually have time to get ready for work not just run around like a crazy person trying to get ready. I am starting my new relationship with the kitchen today, mark my words....today.

  12. I'm sure you've checked out New York & Company for work clothes. I find that they're still really cute and versatile, but you look like you're dressed to be the boss!

  14. I love the Crossfire series, but I was disappointed I have to wait for the next book to come out. I can't wait to see what you think about them.

  15. Im working on my hold me accountable list and i think we are the same person! good luck!! Meal planning, no matter how simple makes me so happy as a Type A you will really love it. I know on Sunday what we're eating each day and if its something I can prep in advance.

  16. Ha I feel ya, I buy so much black and tan, I need some color! I started waking up with my hubby at 4:45 am last May and I've never looked back. Trust me, I was the girl who hit snooze a million times until the last minute, then I was rushed & cranky. It's so nice to have all the extra time to do stuff, which then frees up time in the evenings. Love it! You get used to it, promise. Good luck :)

  17. I think I could paste this entire list and it would be almost the same as my own that I wrote down in my little book. I hope we can both stick to these goals!!

  19. For the record, I think you're a fabulous blogger as is! Your goals are so similar to mine...I think I wear black the majority of the work week. And going to the gym after work sucks, but I'm trying my best to squeeze it in. Lord knows this bod needs it! I'm rootin' for ya!
