Our Journey to Baby #2

7.27.2017

If you have been following along with my blog for a while now then you probably know our journey trying to conceive Charlie Beth. It wasn't a quick and easy road. After ten months of trying and a trip to the infertility specialist, I finally got my positive pregnancy test just days before we were to begin fertility medication. She was so worth the wait.

Steven and I knew from the beginning that we wanted our children close in age. My brother and I are 2 1/2 years apart, and we have always maintained a very close relationship. I wanted my children to experience that same closeness.

Towards the end of April (right after Charlie Beth weaned from breastfeeding) Steven and I made the decision to stop taking preventative measures and see what happens. The first month passed without any luck, but I really wasn't expecting anything different. After all, it took us almost a year to conceive Charlie Beth, and I had a feeling it would be just as long for the second baby.

Month number two approached, and we were honestly so busy with the hustle and bustle of summer that pregnancy barely crossed my mind.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I came down with the dreaded stomach bug. It knocked me out for a good 24 hours. While I was sick Steven and my mom both asked me if it was possible that I could be pregnant and not just sick. I took a pregnancy test knowing that although far fetched, anything was possible. The test was negative.

A few days after that I still felt off. I had dinner plans with some girlfriends at a local Mexican restaurant, and although I didn't feel my best, I'm never one to turn down margaritas and cheese dip! I decided if I didn't feel better by the next morning I would take another test even though I was certain it would be another negative.

The next morning, with Steven and Charlie Beth watching Mickey Mouse in the bedroom, I snuck into our bathroom to take a test. Low and behold, the faintest of lines appeared. Were my eyes playing tricks on me?

Without thinking I picked up the test and walked back into the bedroom where I said to my half asleep husband, "I think I might be pregnant." A little different than the way I surprised him with the news the first time around.

After examining the test Steven agreed that there was a really faint line there, but he wasn't convinced it was a true positive. Because I'm impatient and needed to know right away, I ran up to the store and bought two more brands of tests. After taking those tests, it was clear to both Steven and I that baby Sparks #2 was on the way!

  4. I can so relate to this --- Abe took us a year to conceive, so when he was 9 months old we decided to just start trying because it would probably take a while again. Less than 2 months later we got a positive! So happy for you!
