Dear seventeen year old Morgan,
You are currently having the time of your life in high school. Savor every last moment because those memories will hold near and dear to your heart for years to come. You have the best group of friends that a girl could ever ask for. In a year or so you will all move away to different colleges and lose touch, but you will reconnect several times throughout the years. Friendships like that last a lifetime.
In a few years you will be reunited with all your high school friends again. Unfortunately, it is due to the worst kind of circumstances. One of your closest and dearest friends, someone you consider more like a brother to you, will suffer a tragic accident. You will all make it through with the support of one another.
Don't worry about finding your one true love right now. In a few years down the road, when you are least expecting it, you will meet him in a bar one night while out with your friends and you will immediately feel a connection. He will ask you on a date for the following Saturday night, but you will end up talking to him constantly before that and decide to go on a date the Friday night before instead. I would tell you to make certain that you are prepared for that so you wear "date appropriate" clothes that day, but those purple pants that you ended up showing up in make for a pretty special story in your relationship.
Cheerleading is a passion of yours right now. You will miss it greatly when you graduate high school and move on to pursue other things. So many amazing things came out of all those years of cheerleading, but one of the best was meeting your best friend. For years you two will joke about how much you hated each when you met back in seventh grade, but your friendship is special. You will lose touch for a short period in college, but you quickly reconnect with one another. One day you will planning your wedding and anxiously awaiting the birth of her first baby. Thankfully you find husbands who quickly become friends. Your twenties will be a very exciting time for the four of you.
You will also keep another very special friendship. You and Rachael have always been more like sisters than friends, and you will continue that relationship well into your twenties. In fact, your mid-twenties are very special for the two of you. You don't know it yet, but Rachael will be standing by your side as your Maid of Honor at your wedding one day. Perhaps even more special than that, you two will be planning weddings at the exact same time. It will be a year that neither of you will ever forget.
I know you have a very strong opinion about not joining a sorority when you go off to college, but listen to your mom on this one. She will insist that you at least go through rush. Do it. You will join that sorority and meet a group of wonderful girls. You will make friends with several, but there are two in particular that will become a big part of your life. Be prepared, however, for the three of you to move to different states after college. It's really hard, but you will remain best friends. Those two will be standing right beside you on your wedding day. Friends like those two are special and rare to find.
You have amazing dreams for yourself and your life. Although you don't become the next Erin Andrews, you do turn your dream of living in New York City into a reality. You get an amazing college internship in the city and you spend six months of your life living out your dream.
I know you like to put yourself and your life on a timeline. Stop doing that. Stop trying to figure out a timeline for marriage and babies and the future. Everything you've wanted will happen and it will happen when it is supposed to.
You and mom will have many conversations about your future wedding. You will make jokes, plan dreams, and one day it will all be a reality. You have some very special years coming your way. Enjoy the rest of high school. It goes by way too quickly, but it is truly a few of the very best years of your life. College will also be some of the very best years. Slow down and take the time to soak in all the fun and memories.
One more thing, spend as much time with your granddaddy as you can. Hug his neck extra tight every time you say goodbye. He is taken from us far too soon.
You have so many amazing things coming your way, kid.
Love,
Your future self
