Snow Day

2.13.2014

The majority of the country is over this brutal winter we've experienced this year (and I'll admit that I'm one of them), but waking up to a view like this one makes all those feelings disappear. I live in the South, so waking up to the beauty that is a snow covered front yard is rare. Waking up to five inches of snow covering the yard is almost unheard of.
Reports came out early that we would have major winter weather hit our state this week. I've been working from home since Tuesday waiting for just that to happen. Schools have been closed, businesses have been on high alert, and the entire city was waiting for that one snowflake to fall from the sky. Tuesday came and left with nothing (the major concern that day was ice), Wednesday came with still nothing, and just when I was losing hope that we would see any snow at all it began to fall. Snow came down quick and it came down hard last night. The snow in our area lasted a few hours and dumped multiple inches of snow on the ground.
Knowing that the weather will warm up into the 50s today the neighborhood began flocking out of their homes and into the streets for a rare walk through the fluffy white stuff covering the ground. Steven and our neighbor were the first of the "kids" to get outside and enjoy the snow. They found some makeshift sleds (swimming floats actually because that's what people have stored in Alabama, not sleds) and walked across the street to the park with all the other neighborhood kids to sled down the big hill.
After getting our snow fix in for the night we headed home to let the dogs play in it for a little while. Cooper had zero interest in playing in the snow, but Kane on the other hand loved it! He was running wild in the backyard trying to eat the snow and play in it.
I would be just fine if the snow decided to stick around for another day or so, however, I'm pretty positive that's not going to be the case. With the sun beaming down and temperatures quickly rising this morning I can already see the snow beginning to melt off trees and roadways.

I think I'll go grab my coffee and sit in front of the window a little longer this morning taking in mother nature's beauty before it all melts away.

Stay warm!

  1. I am loving the views this morning! Mainly because I was snowed in, not out!

Your dogs sounds like mine. Gracie was running around and eating snow and just having the best time. Mac was totally over it after about 2 minutes and was begging to go back in. Probably because his little legs were about the same height as the snow. Hehe.

  3. It is so fun watching the dogs play in it. Seamus has a hard time with the snow because the banks get too talk and he can't reach them. Haha! Small dog problems. It is snowing again here today too. Stay warm!

  7. When I see photos like this it makes me so sad that California is currently experiencing a drought! I would love to experience this every once in a while - as long as I didn't have to drive in it!
