Pour yourself a large glass of wine. And then pour yourself another one. Drinking to cope probably isn't the type of advice you will receive from any medical professional, so I guess it's a good thing I'm not a medical professional. I can speak from personal experience that it does the body good after a long and exhausting day. If nothing else a glass (or bottle) of wine will help you relax and loosen up. I can't promise that it won't bring on an emotional cry, however, sometimes an ugly, emotional cry is necessary after a bad day.
Draw a bubble bath, blast your favorite music, and soak (with glass of wine in hand, obviously). There is something about a hot bubble bath that does the mind and body good. Close your eyes, sit back, and listen to music all while soaking out toxins and releasing tension. For extra relaxation add lavender and Epson Salt to your bath.
Put on your most comfortable pair of sweat pants. The bigger the better and the older the better. Don't go for fashion on this one.
Cuddle up with a trashy reality tv show or a gossip magazine. I suggest Teen Mom, Jersey Shore, Party Down South, or anything else that puts things in perspective. I bet you already feel better just thinking about what a hot mess those people are, don't you?
Skype or Facetime with a long distance friend. There is something special about spending time catching up with old friends, even if it is just by phone. Reminiscing about the good ole' college days and and all the crazy things you did is sure to bring a smile to your face at the very least.
Have a laugh. My go to for a good laugh is anything from the Big Bang Theory to Friends reruns. If neither of those do the trick then hop on Pinterest and head over to the humor section. I guarantee you will find something there to make you smile.
And most importantly, always remember...
I think these are also great for a really tough day at work - my go to favorite...hitting the gym for a really hard workout...or hitting a punching back!! Can't go wrong with wine and a bubble bath!
ReplyDeletePerfect. I haven't necessarily been having bad days...just feeling incredibly stressed! And these are all great tips for unwinding at the end of a long and crazy day!
ReplyDeleteGirl drinking to ease the pain is my middle name. lol. When Mike became a correctional officer he had to take a mental stability test and one of the questions was "do you drink to destress?" and then he was asked the same thing in about 80 different ways. lol. I might have failed.
ReplyDeleteI love all these ideas! Working out is on my list of things to do. It tires me out and I forget why it was a bad day.
ReplyDeleteThis is great advice! Def need to check this list out on those days that just keep heading down south. I try to think positive thoughts, instead of negative, and that magically works sometimes! Have you heard of "The Secret" video?

Love this..also ice cream and chocolate help!
ReplyDeleteThis is seriously the perfect list. If I'm having a bad day, nothing makes it better than when I can go home, get comfy, pour myself a drink, and watch something on TV that doesn't require me to think.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing you missed is that my #1 thing I do first is TAKE OFF MY BRA! Ha!!
This is basically what I do every night when I go home ;-). Wine and comfy pants with some bravo tv cures all!
ReplyDeletethat is SO true - it's just a bad day, not a bad life. sometimes we all need perspective to kick us in the butt!

Vodka and Soda
I LOVE that quote at the end! So important to remember. When I have a bad day, I go home and cuddle my dogs. They can always read my mood and know just how to make me smile :)
ReplyDeleteALL my favorite things. Between sweats, wine, and my family skype dates. heck yes! It's the BEST stress reliever!
ReplyDeleteThis is so right, all of it. I'm sitting here watching reality, in my sweats, with my wine and nodding to all of it!
ReplyDeleteAll of these are so right on!!!!
ReplyDeleteTeen Mom?! Girllllll, I'm glad I'm not the only trashy TV lover! Perfect for a bad day (with a glass of wine, of course!)
ReplyDeleteYes yes yesssss to the wine!!! :)

I don't drink wine but I definitely combine 1 & 2 and either blast music while drinking beer in the tub/shower. Which is always followed by Netflix & snapchat in sweats.
ReplyDeleteyes to all of this! Such great things to do to help with a poopy day!
