Being the over-prepared, anxious, type-A girl that I am, I find comfort in doing as much research as possible before diving into any new venture. That's why the day after I found out that I was expecting a baby, I rushed out to my nearest bookstore and began stocking up on books to read to prepare me for this exciting new journey. The first book that I picked up was one that has been around for years and has topped out on the New York Times bestseller list a record breaking 600+ weeks, What To Expect When You're Expecting. I was already familiar with the What to Expect series because I had read up on What To Expect Before Your Expecting when Steven and I first decided that we were ready to start a family (I told you I liked doing my research!). Not only that, but my mom also highly recommended reading this book. She read it while she was pregnant with me, and she couldn't say enough good things about it! I knew that this was a book I could dive right into in order to answer all my trivial and ridiculous questions about pregnancy.
I'm not going to lie, I was incredibly overwhelmed at first! I thought that this was a book I needed to sit down and read from cover to cover in a matter of days. It turns out, I just needed to take a deep breath and relax. The book is broken down into sections for every month of pregnancy, so I found it much less intimidating when I realized I could read each section at the beginning of a new month of pregnancy. So far, I've gone into each month of my pregnancy prepared for the symptoms to come. I've found it to be such a comfort when those unsettling aches and pains come my way.
The best part? The What To Expect series doesn't end when baby is born. They have books to help all us new parents out for the first two years of baby's life! How awesome is that? I plan to take the same path with each of those books and continue reading the series long after Charlie Beth's arrival in November.
To all my mommies (and daddies!) to be, I highly recommend checking out What To Expect When You're Expecting. After all, you can never be too prepared for your little one's arrival!
