My Dogs Are Preparing Us For The Future

2.03.2014

Happy Monday, Friends! I hope your Monday morning got off to a much better start than mine did. I mean, it's already hard enough to wake up and face the day on a rainy and cold Monday morning, but waking up at 2:45 in the morning to not one but two sick dogs was not at all had I hoped to start my week.

First it was Kane who decided to throw up all over the freshly washed comforter around 2:45 this morning. Shortly after it was Cooper who jumped off the bed and did his business on the rug in the guest room and both his puppy pads in the house. We finally got the dogs back into bed around 3:30, only to be woken up an hour later by Cooper needing to once again use the bathroom followed by Kane waking us up to let him out at 5:15 this morning. Oh, and while Steven was trying to turn the security alarm off to let him out this morning Kane decided he couldn't hold it any longer and made a big ole' mess right in the living room floor. We ended up spending what would have been our last hour of glorious sleep before the work week began cleaning floors, opening windows, and lighting candles to rid of the nasty smell taking over our house.

And that my friends, is how my week begins - short on sleep and smelling of poop and puke. Lovely.

Don't get me wrong, I fully expect my future to hold sleepless nights and puke stained clothes. I just didn't expect it to happen now with my dogs instead of in the future with my babies. I expect (and truly am so excited for) many long nights rocking a fussy and gassy baby back to sleep. What I didn't expect is cuddling my two gassy dogs back to sleep after suffering through an upset tummy. I expect these things will happen when we have children, but I can truly say I didn't expect this kind of thing with my dogs.

In the end, however, I think the dogs are doing us a favor. They are preparing us for the all nighters, the poop cleanup, and the worrying just to name a few. In their own special way, they are preparing us for the day when Steven and I become a parents. I guess I'll have them to thank for that, one day. For now, I just want to go home and take a nap.

Here's to hoping this Monday turns around quick!

  1. But they're sooo cute! :) Sorry to hear they aren't feeling well, and mostly that you were up ALLLLL morning taking care of them and ridding your house of 'sick dog' smells! But I completely believe that having a dog prepares you for children...it's one step in the direction of caring for a helpless life and loving them unconditionally! Practice makes perfect, right?! ;) Here's to hoping you have a better day than how it started!

  5. Aww, adorable pups! Not so adorable mistakes, hehe.
I know how it is when a pup decides to throw up on a fresh comforter or go potty just before letting them out.
Hope you get some rest when you get home!

  6. Oh no! Hope they feel better soon. With Seamus I have had many early or sleepless nights and I totally think it prepares us for kids. Hope you get a nap and some sleep tonight.

  7. I hope your dogs are feeling better! Gracie woke me up crying on Saturday night. Her ears were so red and inflamed. I let her out of her crate and she kept rubbing her body all over the carpets trying to scratch. My poor baby and her allergies. I had to give her a Benedryl to relieve the itch and let her sleep.

Why do they always find the need to get sick on something that is freshly washed?

  8. I hope your pups get better soon! I've had to use a few personal days from work just to stay home with Thatcher during his stomach episodes. I know it's no fun. I think they're definitely a lot of prep for children!

  10. I hope both your puppies are feeling better soon so you can all get some sleep tonight! It's truly amazing how much time and work pets take. I have thought that my dog is preparing us for kids too! Because I mean they are our children for now. :) Hope your day goes by quickly so you can get some rest!

  16. Awww poor little munchkins! Levi was sick this weekend too and it was so out of the blue. We brought him over to our condo and he puked in our bed and then we left to take him up the street to go to the bathroom and he puked again in the car-- all over Rob. Funny thing was, it was Rob's birthday. HAHA Happy Birthday Dad, BARF! Anyway, I hope the babes are feeling more like themselves tonight and you are able to get some good rest!!
