Memorial Day Weekend

5.28.2014

Friday afternoon the husband and I packed the car and headed South on a road trip to Florida to watch my beautiful cousin marry the man of her dreams. Nine hours later, we finally pulled into town and promptly passed out in our hotel for a few hours before starting the day on Saturday.

The weather was sunny and perfect for her outdoor wedding, and we had the most fabulous time celebrating and dancing the night away with the newlyweds. My cousin was a gorgeous bride, and there is no doubt that she found her prince charming.
Sunday morning we woke up slightly foggy headed, met my parents and brother for breakfast, and then all made the impromptu decision to head to the beach for the rest of the Memorial Day weekend. Daytona Beach was only about an hour from where we were, so we once again packed up the car and this time drove out to the beach! I put my magical skills to work and found a couple of hotel rooms for us that were directly on the beach. It was definitely no Ritz Carlton, but it wasn't too shabby for a last minute deal on one of the busiest beach weekends of the year.
We spent the afternoon drinking beer on the beach and listening to the sounds of the ocean, and then headed out that night for some fresh seafood. We knew nothing about Daytona Beach, so I put my skills to work again, this time using Urbanspoon, and found us a restaurant. I thought I did awesome by picking a place that had a beach party going on, but I somehow managed to pick a bar/restaurant that I'm certain MTV was using to film Spring Break 2014. The party atmosphere was in full swing, but we found a little table on the deck and sipped our drinks quietly while taking in all our surroundings.
Unfortunately we had to leave pretty early Monday morning in order to make it home before midnight. We did, however, manage to squeeze in a few more hours on the beach before leaving. Also, because our beach trip was a last minute decision, we all had to purchase proper beach attire (i.e a swimsuit and cover up). For my husband, father, and brother that meant finding the most American attire that they could find in order to support Memorial Day. For my mom and I, it meant finding the least tacky swimsuits that we could find and curling up on a beach chair with a good book in hand.

Needless to say, our Memorial Day weekend was jammed packed. Three days, one wedding, one beach trip, lots of beer, and 18 hours of driving later, we are home and back to our regular routine. Now, if I could just have another few days to recover from all the excitement..
