One of my favorite things about summer (and every other season for that fact) is shopping for a new summer wardrobe. I was started to get frustrated with my current closet selections (hence the confession post I wrote last week about wearing the same outfit over and over again), so I did what any rational person would do in that situation and went shopping! Below are a few of my favorite finds from my mini summer shopping spree.
One.
In my opinion, one can never have too many maxi dresses, and this was the perfect maxi to add to my collection. My favorite part of this dress, besides the vibrant colors that are much brighter in person that in this picture, is the back cut out. After purchasing this Bar III dress last week at Macy's, I wore it to work with wedges (because I'm short) and a blue jean jacket. It was the perfect dress to stay "corporate" enough in the office (because let's face it, I hate real corporate clothes.) and then ditch the jacket for dinner with the husband after work. The dress is paired with a fabric belt, but I prefer it without the belt, at least on my figure. It's the kind of dress that can be dressed down for shopping on the weekends or dressed up enough for a summer wedding.
Two.
I'm not a huge fan of the way maxi skirts look on my body. I have one maxi skirt in my closet, but every time I wear it I end up hating myself for it a few hours later. This Bar III skirt was too cute to resist, however, so I took a chance and tried it on. I was actually shocked at how cute it was once I got it on. It hit the perfect spot on my waist and was long enough on me to wear it with heels or wedges (which isn't hard to do because I'm pretty short). I paired this skirt with a white sheer blouse that I tucked in last week for work and then transformed the look to night by wearing a white off the shoulder (shocker, right?!) short top. Thankfully the skirt hit high enough and the crop(ish) top was long enough that no mid-drift was showing when I put it on. I loved this outfit, and I know that it will become a summer stable this year in my wardrobe.
(P.S - this is one sale right now at Macy's for a crazy good price!)
Three.
Normally, I'm not a huge fan of shorts. I find dresses just as cool and comfortable in the summer, and dresses don't show off my "former cheerleader muscular" thighs quite as much as shorts do. These, however, caught my eye in Macy's and I thought, what the hell, I'll give them a shot. I'm so glad I did because I love them! I usually have a hard time finding shorts that fit just right. If they are loose enough in the legs and butt then they are always way too big in the waist. Furthermore, if they fit in the waist then they quite literally suction to my booty and legs. These, however, didn't do any of that nonsense. They were a perfect fit! They are also casual enough to wear with sandals and a tshirt or dressy enough (and long enough) to throw on wedges for an evening look. These are designed by Bar III and I found them at my go-to store, Macy's.
Four.
Rachel Roy is one of my favorite (affordable) designers. She designs a line at Macy's, which is where I buy the majority of her styles. I fell in love with this casual black tank dress the moment I saw it. It's perfect for summer weekends traveling with the husband. I even got away with dressing this up with wedges and a blue jean jacket last week for work. It's beyond comfortable, and even better, I got it on sale at Macy's!
Five.
This dress is quickly becoming one of my new favorite "go-to" dresses. I bought it a few weeks ago and have since worn it two or three times. I had several people comment on it after my SliceFest recap, so I thought I would share the details.
I bought this dress at one of my favorite Birmingham boutiques, Lotus. Unfortunately, this dress is no longer available on their website, but they do have some adorable dresses right now online and in store. The prices on all their clothes are so affordable, which is obviously a big bonus in my book. This is the kind of store that I run to when I'm in need of a last minute outfit for a concert or weekend road trip.
I'm beginning to fall in love with maxi's. Skirts or dresses. They are so comfy and you don't have to be lady-like in them like regular dresses either!!
ReplyDeleteApparently I need to go to Macy's! I never think about going there because when I go shopping, usually it is at the Summit or somewhere in Trussville. I don't often venture down to Hoover or Brookwood. I used to buy all the INC stuff there! I have never heard of Bar III but I love all your picks! Also, LOVE Lotus!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great weekend!
Love love love that maxi at the top!!! The back straps are perfect!
ReplyDeleteI have maxi skirts and agree, never like the way they look on me. They just hit at such an odd spot on my body!
ReplyDeletei agree new seasons call for new clothes!! especially since i work a boutique! im very picky about the maxi skirts i get! i am obbsessed with boyfriend shorts this season and dress of corse!
ReplyDeleteMaxis look cute on everyone else but me! I always want to give them a go, but they never work (short people problems).
ReplyDeleteAnd former cheerleader thighs are NO JOKE! I feel the same way about shorts!
I wish maxi's looked good on me! I'm an awkard height lol where they all look like flood clothing. They are super cute though. I especially love the pink skirt & shorts.
ReplyDeleteGirl, I can't even walk in a Macy's without being ready to be broke. I always find stuff I didn't need, but had to have!
ReplyDeleteLove me a pretty maxi! You can dress it up to however you please!
ReplyDeleteThat maxi dress is so cute!! And I'm short too, so the wedges are a lifesaver! :)
ReplyDeleteAlso... I don't know about you, but I've been super bummed about missing five on Friday for the summer. If you're interested my friend Karli {september FARM} and I {the farmer's wife} are starting up a link-up "oh hey, friday!" with the exact same outline and would love for you to join us tomorrow or any Friday! Hope to see you there.
xoxo
