If You Knew Me In High School

9.04.2014

A lot of people look back on high school as a distant memory that they would rather not reminisce on. I, however, don't feel that way at all. I loved high school. I had an amazing group of friends, was involved in several different school activities, and spent a majority of my time working my ass off as a competitive cheerleader. High school was busy and it was fabulous.

If you knew me in high school you would know...
For six years I cheered on an All-Star cheerleading squad, ACE of Alabama. I loved every minute of it. I loved spending most evenings at the gym. I loved spending weekend after weekend traveling to competitions. Most importantly, I loved the life long friendships that I made through ACE. Cheerleading was a huge part of my life, and the sport that shaped the person that I am today.
If you knew me in high school you would know...
That I had the best group of friends that I could ever ask for. Seriously, the best. We were the kind of friends who spent every weekend and most afternoons after school together. We went on trips together and all paired off for school dances. They were my rock throughout high school. These pictures bring back so many happy memories. They also break my heart knowing that one of my closest high school friend is no longer here with us.
If you knew me in high school you would know...
That I was very involved in school activities. Homecoming was by far my favorite week of the school year (wasn't it everyone's?!) I went all out on dressing up and partaking in homecoming activities.

Also, I was the Senior Class Secretary and highly involved with Broadcast Journalism. Our high school had a morning news cast every morning, and guess who anchored the news? That's right, I did. The whole school was forced to listen to my horrible high-pitched voice every. single. morning.

On top of that, I participate in the school pageant every year. I had never done a pageant in my life until my freshman year when I decided that I wanted to compete. I won my very first year and placed every year after that. Pageant night was always a fun night at my high school. There were so many girls hiding out back stage, running around shaking with nerves and making memories together. So much fun!
If you knew me in high school you would know...
That those were the years that my addiction to NYC began. My dad took me on a father-daughter trip to New York for my sixteenth birthday, and I was instantly hooked! I went back every year after that for my birthday until I moved to NYC for an internship when I was twenty-one.
If you knew me in high school you would know....
That I could never end this walk down memory lane without properly displaying a few prom pictures. Like most people, I could go on for hours telling stories about prom night (like how we got our limo confiscated), but I won't. I'll just leave you with the pictures instead.
Now it's your turn! Grab the button below, write about your high school memories and experience, and link up with Libby and me below! I can't wait to read about the person that you were in high school!

  1. What a fun post! I wasn't a cheerleader but I played on a very competitive soccer team, so most nights were on the field and my weekends always had a game or two!

I spent hours looking through old pictures last night and I'm sure Dan got annoyed with me constantly wanting to show him another one :) I love that you had a pageant at your school and that you won! And I was super involved too . . . can I join that fun friend group?!?

  13. Wow you were (and still are) such a rock star! I really miss high school too. There was so little stress and so much going on! I think we were basically the same person, substituting cheer for volleyball/softball for me. Thanks for this link up, it was so much fun!
