It's that time of year again! School is officially back in session, and colleges are preparing for the arrival of thousands of new freshman to step onto campus for the first time. It's an exciting and nerve-wrecking time for these freshman as they begin a brand new journey into the unknown. For most, this is the first time that they will be away from home and out of their comfort zone. In order to make the transition a little less intimidating, I thought it would be a fun idea to put together a little gift basket for some of my family members who are moving away to college this month.
I thought it would be special to give them a gift basket that would not only make them feel a little more at home in their dorm room, but one that would also inspire them as they embark on this new grand adventure. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of my home, are the specific scents and aromas that light up the room. That's why the first thing I included in my First Day Of School Gift Basket was a Glade® BlueOdyssey™ Large Candle. I purchased this candle at Walmart, and the scent is absolutely delicious! The new and larger candle burns for up to 60 hours, so it's the perfect gift for students who will be up studying late into the night and need help staying energized and motivated! I know this candle will not only make my cousins feel more at home in their college dorm, but it will also enlighten and inspire their creative side.
To keep the trend of inspiration and creativity going, I also included an adorable notebook that matched their dorm decoration and a pen so they can jot their thoughts and feelings down as they begin this new journey into adulthood. My cousins love to journal, so I know they would really appreciate having a cute notebook at their fingertips.
The next items that I added to the gift basket were these delicious flavored teas. My cousins aren't coffee drinkers, but coffee would also be a perfect item to include in your DIY gift basket. After all, these students are going to need something to keep them awake as they pull those all-nighters studying for exams!
I know not all dorm rooms have the luxury of a bath tub, but if your college student happens to be one of the lucky few who do, or if your college student is living in an apartment, bath salts are another great option to add to your gift basket. After all, doesn't a nice long bubble bath after an excruciating exam sound delightful?
Finally, I added in a few pieces of chocolate and candy for good measure. Everyone loves chocolate, and with the stress this transition, your college student should have something delicious to indulge in!
What else would you add to your “DIY First Day Of School Gift Basket?” Can you think of something to add that would make your student feel inspired? Walmart is the perfect place to go for all your back-to-school needs! Right now, if you purchase two Glade® Candles (9.2 oz. size) at Walmart, you will receive a$5.00 virtual gift card
