The Reason We Decided To Sell Our Home

2.25.2016

About a month ago Steven and I started talking about putting our house on the market. A week later there was a for sale sign in the yard. It was a quick and impulsive decision, but one that we are very excited about.
Selling our house was the furthest thing on our mind until recently. When we bought our house two and a half years ago we figured we would be here for about five years or so. The school district is terrible, so we knew that we would definitely move before our kids started school. We are located in a historical area near downtown Birmingham (our house was built in the 1940s). When we purchased our home the neighborhood was just starting to gain popularity. Since we moved in, the neighborhood and area surrounding us has really taken off. People are flocking to downtown Birmingham right now, so real estate is a hot commodity in this area.
So why would we pack up and move if we live in one of the most popular neighborhoods in Birmingham? The answer is simple. We are out of room. It's no secret that babies take up a lot of space. To be so little, they sure do come with a lot of stuff! We joke that the minute we brought Charlie Beth home from the hospital was the minute we grew out of our house. There just isn't enough space to hold all of our stuff, all of Charlie Beth's things, and two people, a baby, and two dogs. Not to mention we only have one bathroom, so that speaks for itself. Sure, we could move into a bigger home in this area (although most the homes around here are even smaller than ours), but I am ready to move away from the booming nightlife and into the suburbs.
I've had a lot of people ask me if we have found another house yet. I debated saying anything because I didn't want to jinx it, but the truth is we have found another house. We actually have a contract on a house about ten minutes away from our current home. Of course, our contract is contingent on our current house selling, so there are no guarantees. All we can do is pray that our house sells quickly so we can pack up the baby, dogs, and all our stuff and head out to the 'burbs.
And if you think we are crazy for trying to sell a house currently occupied by a three month old and two messy dogs, you would be 100% correct. We are nuts! It's definitely stressful trying to get the house cleaned and everyone out of the house during showings, but I know it will be worth it when we are no longer sharing one tiny bathroom.

  1. Ah! That's so exciting that you already have another house, I hope you sell yours fast. It's very cute and nicely updated. I hear ya with the space. Baby stuff has taken over our tiny two bedroom townhome, but we aren't ready to buy yet.

  10. GORGEOUS! Also yes - the school district makes a huge difference. We are moving into a school district that is awesome and the best part? The elementary school (being built in 2017) is literally inside our neighborhood for Kensington to go to school to. I will say a prayer that yalls sells QUICK! Like - tomorrow!!!!

  13. Love your style! And, no, I don't think you're crazy. Trust me, now is the time; we had to do a cross-country move (to Alabama, actually!) with a walking, MOBILE, tornado of a 1.5 year old and OMG, it wasn't for the faint of heart.
