How to Survive a Sick Day

10.15.2013

Yesterday was a sick day for this little girl, and I spent the entire day curled up on the couch coughing my lungs up and cuddling with the best little furry monsters that anyone could ask for. If I wasn’t feeling like complete dog poo then I probably would have gone stir crazy from sitting in my house wearing the same pajamas (and sans shower) for over 48 hours, but since I felt like I had been run over by a train, I was perfectly content sitting in my own filth of germs and watching hours of television. If anything productive came out of my day yesterday, it was coming up with this list of four tips to get you through a sick day. I hope you don’t have to use this in the near future, but I’m here if you do.

How to Survive a Sick Day

One.
Find a tv marathon and then don’t change the channel for the rest of the day. For me, that marathon was The Big Bang Theory. I watched an entire season yesterday and laughed my congested head off the entire time. I swear, I don’t care how many times I’ve seen an episode, it never gets any less funny.
Two.
Make sure you’re stocked up on chicken noodle soup. You won’t be able to taste the soup because the sickness has destroyed your taste buds, the warm sensation will make your throat feel better. If you don’t have any in your house before the sickness takes over your body, then put your newfound sexy raspy voice to good use and ask your significant other to help a homegirl out (or call out for delivery if you live somewhere that delivers anything other than pizza and Chinese –which I do not.).
Three.
Ensure that all electronics are fully charged and ready for hours of use. This includes, but is not limited to, iPhones, iPads, and laptops. This proves extra helpful when you download candy crush on both, your iPhone and iPad, and can switch back and forth when you run out of lives. It’s also helpful when you decide to write a blog post on your laptop (because attempting to write anything on the iPad is nothing short of a miserable failure) and then read your daily blogs on your iPad. #firstworldproblems.
Four.
Keep medicine and fluids nearby. This cuts out on the amount of times that you have to force yourself up off the couch and walk to long and dreaded ten feet into the kitchen. Believe me, that task is much more aggravating when you are attempting to do it in the middle of a coughing fit and you have two sleeping puppies right on top of you. You can never have enough Gatorade or cough syrup sitting on the table next to you.
And that my friends is how to do a sick day the right way.
Go get your flu shots (even though I’m pretty sure that only protects you from the flu and not this obnoxious cold that I’ve contracted) and remember to wash your hands!
