Sick Little Puppy Dog

1.23.2014

Anyone who has a pet knows how quickly they become a part of your family. You do everything you can to make sure they are happy and healthy, and when they do get sick, it absolutely breaks your heart.

Yesterday evening I came home and immediately knew something was wrong with my first born fur child. Instead of running to the front door to greet me with puppy kisses and a wagging tail, he sat on the couch looking up at me with the most pitiful little eyes. He had a runny nose, watery eyes, and when I picked him up he was radiating heat. Naturally, I went into panic mommy mode and began furiously googling any and everything I could do to make him feel better. One (half) Benadryl and a cool washcloth wipe down later, things weren't looking up. He didn't want to do anything other than curl up in my lap or on his bed and sleep. It was heartbreaking to see him so lethargic and sick.

Before bed I gave him the other half of Benadryl and hoped that he would sleep it off and feel better by morning. No such luck. I was up and down with him all night last night. When he did actually get some sleep he was wheezing in my ear in the entire time. At one point he even crawled up onto my pillow and took over my spot. This morning I could tell that he was feeling worse. His poor little nose was even warmer to the touch than it was last night. I tried to get him to eat his breakfast, but he didn't want anything to do with food. I then put him in a cool bath to try and reduce his fever. He usually fights me on getting in the bathtub, but this morning he just stood there, limp and weak. The cold bath only temporarily cooled his body down, and within five minutes time his little belly was once again radiating heat. I knew then he had to go to the vet.

I dropped him off at the vet on my way into work this morning. I really hated to leave him alone, but I knew he was in very capable hands. Hopefully the doctor will start him on some antibiotics and my happy little baby boy will be back to his fun-loving and playful self. I really hate seeing my baby so pitiful. It just breaks my heart!

  13. I saw this last night on instagram and my heart broke. I totally know the feeling and don't blame you a bit. I know there are times when my little Roxy doesn't feel good cause she is usually extra cuddly and grumpy. (I know also from instagram that your baby is feeling better after the vet, thank goodness)
