My Muscles Hurt

2.12.2014

Dear Jillian Michaels,

You have successfully kicked my ass this week. Your thirty day shred is wreaking havoc on my legs, arms, and abs. I could hardly even pull my legs over the bathtub to get into the shower last night because they ached so bad. Don't even get me started on how long it took me to get out of bed this morning. And you know what? I love it. I love feeling the burn because I feel like my workout is accomplishing its goal. I'm working muscles that the eliptical machine and treadmill just don't get to. It feels good. Really good. While it may take me a little longer to do things such as sit down on the toilet couch because my quads burn like nobody's business, it's a small price to pay for changes I will (hopefully) see in the end. Just ignore me if you see me walking like I just got off of a horse.
The downside? Well, technically there is no true downsize, however for a girl who monitors her goals by the number on the scale each morning this new strength and tone workout is making the numbers stagnant. As in, the number on the scale has been the exact same for a few days now. There is nothing more frustrating than getting getting on the scale knowing how hard you've worked your body and then not seeing a change in numbers. It can be discouraging (Jillian Michaels really would kick my ass if she read those words from me). However, I have done strength training before and I know it's all part of the process.

This is where I want to say that in order to not get myself down I'm throwing the scale out the door and measuring my goals by how my clothes fit and blah blah blah, but I know that's not going to happen. As much as I despise the scale I will continue to torture myself by stepping foot on that little bitch every single morning. Some mornings I'll celebrate and others I'll want to kick the scale out the window, but like I said, it's all part of the process.

Good news is I actually do see a difference in my clothes. In fact, most of the pants I wear to work won't even stay up! I got really brave the other night and tried on a dress that hasn't fit in several months and guess what?! It fit! So then I tried on a few more dresses/pants/skirts that I haven't worn in a long time and every single one of them fit. It felt wonderful!

So is this process frustrating? Yes.
Is it worth it? Absolutely.

I still want to lose about fifteen pounds before the wedding (59 days!!). More importantly, however, I want to look fit in tone in my gorgeous dress (and on the honeymoon!). So, Jillian, it looks like we are going to be seeing a lot of each other in the coming weeks. Try not to kill me. Deal?!

If you need me, I'll be soaking the soreness in a hot bath.

xoxo,

  7. I love feeling the burn! I used to care about the number on the scale so much, but since I started lifting I don't use the scale anymore and it's the best feeling. Keep up the great work! The results are worth it!

  11. The 30 day shred is seriously no joke! There are parts of it that get me every time! And I'm feeling the same way this morning, like I can barely walk up or down the stairs at work, but at least that means its working! Keep at it girl. And btw, you'll look gorgeous in your wedding dress no matter what!!

  12. So happy for your weight loss. Ignore the number on the scale. It doesn't matter as much as how you feel! Keep it up!
