Weekend Happenings

2.10.2014

Oh, Monday. Why must we meet again so soon? I've said it before and I'll say it again, weekends just aren't long enough (even my three day weekends since I no longer work on Fridays). If I could just have one more day of rest before the work week begins then I might be satisfied. Of course, this week just may very well turn into a short work week after all because the forecast is once again predicting snow and ice to come in overnight and if that happens than the city will inevitably be shut down. Again. After what happened a few weeks ago no one in this city is taking any chances with snow.
Anyway, enough about that dreaded "S" word, it's time for a little weekend recapping.

Friday.
Since my weekends now technically start on Fridays, I figured I should include my Friday happenings as well. Do you know what is better than having a Friday off of work? Drinking a Starbucks Grande Skinny Hazelnut Macchiato while running errands and doing a little wedding planning then coming home to cuddle with the fur babies. If that isn't the perfect Friday for you, then I don't know what is.
Friday night Steven and I met up with some friends for a birthday dinner. These would be the same friends with a baby on the way, and every time I see my best friend of over ten years with her adorable growing baby bump I can't help but feel like we have grown up overnight. I feel like we should still be gossiping about boys at cheerleading practice, but instead we are talking wedding plans and nursery colors. We are definitely getting old.

Saturday.
Saturday morning Steven and I woke up bright and early for a road trip to Mississippi to meet with our wedding officiant. The minister marrying Steven and me is Steven's second cousin who also happened to be the minister who married Steven's parents thirty-one years ago. We will be his first second generation wedding to conduct. I love everything about the idea that not only is family marrying us, but it also ties our wedding Steven's parents' wedding.
The town we went to was a (very) country, small southern town. The "downtown" had precious little old buildings and everything was very Mayberry inspired. I couldn't get over the old buildings like the town hall, sheriff's office, and even the building where the local newspaper was produced.
Since we were only about thirty minutes outside of Oxford, Steven and I made a pit stop on the way home to see my brother (who attends Ole Miss) and catch up for a few minutes. I hadn't seen the little brother since Christmas, so it was nice to catch up for a little while before making the drive back to Birmingham.
Saturday night (after finally making it back into town) Steven and I met another set of friends for another birthday dinner. We met at a fabulous whiskey bar for dinner and drinks and ended up staying there for several hours talking and drinking delicious whiskey cocktails.

Sunday.
Needless to say, by Sunday Steven and I were so exhausted from the busy weekend that we found it hard to make it off the couch to do anything productive. We did, however, finally muster up the strength to get up and do a bit of yard work that desperately needed to be done. Then we took it a step further and Steven washed both of our cars while I meal planned and went to the grocery store. Finally, after everything else was clean and ready for the week, we decided to bathe the dogs and get them smelling fresh and clean. I love puppy bath time because Cooper gets so snuggly after his bath. He curls up in my lap while wrapped in a warm towel and naps until he is dry.
Just relieving this past weekend is making me tired. Like I said, if I could have one more day of sweatpants and Netflix then I'll be good to go. I probably shouldn't wish such a thing, however, because you know, they are predicting the "S" word for tonight. Schools will probably begin closing early around noon today and the local meteorologist are already saying that travel in the morning will be rough. If everything happens like predicted then my sweatpants and Netflix date may be happened sooner than planned.

Stay warm!

  1. I am SOOO over this weather! Normally I am hoping for snow and doing snow dances to make it happen....not this year! Why cant we have normal pretty snow that doesn't cause the whole state to shut down with ice and all sorts of hazardous conditions?! Stay safe!!!!

  3. I'm sitting here now anticipating a phone call from the schools before the day is over. Though, I have to be honest, I wouldn't hate it if I didn't have to work tomorrow, LOL. I just hope we don't lose power.

*Just reminding everyone to make sure they have followed my new blog..... ;) Thanks!*
