Stress Free Wedding Planning

4.02.2014

// Hire a wedding coordinator.
I understand that it's not financially possible for everyone to hire a wedding coordinator, but if you can squeeze it into your budget then I highly recommend doing so. This was by far the best decision that we made during our wedding planning process.

// Do your research
Before you settle on any vendor, whether that be your wedding coordinator, venue, or florist, do your research on them. find reviews from former brides, compare their cost with other similar vendors in the area, and most importantly, don't settle.

// Start the planning early and give yourself plenty of time.
I am nearing the end to a sixteen month engagement. I know not everyone is willing to wait that long before tying the knot, but the extra time has allowed us to get everything that we want without having to compromise. We booked a venue right after we got engaged, and even at sixteen months out, the venue was filling up quickly for spring weddings!

// Accept Help.
Let your family and friends help you as much as possible. Seriously, my wedding would not even be possible without my mother's help (not to mention the fact that my parents are paying for the wedding). Take full advantage of your family, friends, and bridal party. They are there to help!

// Don't fret over the things that your can't control.
Our wedding reception is outside, so that means that my daily activities right now consist of checking the weather forecast eighty-six times a day. Sure, I am hoping and praying with everything in me that the weather is perfect for our wedding day, but if it isn't (which it will be) then we will still manage. That is what back up plans are for. No matter how much I try, I can't control the weather on our wedding day, so therefore, there is absolutely no reason for me to stress or fret over it.

// Take time off of work before the wedding day (if possible)
I understand that this isn't possible for every bride, especially if you are planning to take time off after the wedding for the honeymoon, but if you can, then I highly recommend it. I'm taking three days off work leading up to my big day. Sure, those days will be filled with last minute details, hair, and nail appointments, but those days will also serve as a time for me to take a deep breath and unwind from the stressors of work and fully focus on my wedding day.

// Have an itinerary for the big day.
I started working on my itinerary weeks ago, and I am still making necessary adjustments (as I'm sure I will be doing right up until the wedding day). My wedding coordinator, mother, and I are working together to ensure that every minute of the wedding day is planned out. On the actual day, I will hand that itinerary over to my wedding coordinator and he will be in charge of making sure everyone follows it down to the second.

And most importantly, remember that no matter what happens, you will still be married to the love of your life at the end of the day.

  2. What an awesome list! I totally agree with all of this, although I'm still 5+ months out from our wedding. But #1 is hands down my #! recommendation as well. It was a requirement by our venue to have a day of coordinator and I'm so thankful that it was because I ended up with an amazing planner (more than just day of) who has helped me SO much. She's saved us money in ways I never could have just because of her connections. In the end, it's totally worth the expense!

    And the weather...shew, I'm going to be exactly the same when it September rolls around. Someone told me yesterday about a website that shows you the weather for the entire month. That was bad information to give me considering I know you can't trust weathermen, but that doesn't mean I won't be checking it 10x a day every day of the month.

    Congrats! When's the big day?!

  8. We hired a person to help the last month prior to the wedding and she helped eliminate so much stress for me!! I am with you on checking on the weather. We got married in October and everyone seemed to be worried about it but me! And guess what I had ZERO backup plans in place...risky!! :)
