Impromptu Decisions

9.11.2014

Yesterday I made the impromptu decision to chop all of my hair off. Yep. After two years of working hard at growing my hair out for the wedding, it was all gone within a matter of minutes. I knew I needed something done. My hair has become a long, thick mess with absolute no real "style" to it. I toyed with the idea of just cutting layers into it and calling it a day, but in the end I knew that I just really missed my angled bob. The same bob that I wore my senior year of high school and throughout college. The same bob that I should probably be done with by now (eight years later), but I'm not.

Truth be told, I love short hair and I love my short hair. When it comes down to it, I like my hair short is because it's different. It's unique to me. You don't see a lot of 25 year olds walking around with an angled bob. No, most 25 year olds have the same hair style that I had been sporting for the last couple of years.

When I started growing my hair out after Steven and I got engaged, I loved it. I loved being able to pull it into a top knot on top of my head. I loved being able to braid it on my way to work and call it a "style." I loved being able to curl it on the weekends. I loved the ease that it provided during the work week, and the look that it gave me when I wanted to put a little more effort into it. Because I loved that aspect so much, I continued to grow it out and let it be. Before I knew it I was wearing it up all the time. Night or day, I was finding some way to throw my hair up and call it a "style."

Yesterday I decided I was over it. I was done being lazy with my hair. I was starting to feel plain and bland, and I hated it. I wanted to feel unique again. I wanted to feel like "me." So first thing yesterday morning I called up one of my best friends (also known as my MOH in my wedding) and told her that I needed it cut. She made me an appointment that afternoon (because we both knew that if I waited longer than a few hours I would chicken out), and by the time the sun was setting, the deed had been done.

7+ inches of hair. Gone.
I feel like a whole new person. I thought I would regret it this morning when I couldn't throw it on top of my head and call it a day, but it was the opposite. It took me all of about five minutes to straighten it and spray it down. Easy and polished! I love it!

  14. Looks beautiful! I've had long hair the majority of my life. I only cut it when I'm going through horrible life changes (like a breakup).

  17. Gorgeous! Great decision. I'm also debating a chop.. I did the "married lady" chop one month after I got married, almost identical to your super cute bob now! Now, 4 1/2 years later I desperately need a change!

  18. Looks amazing! I cut my hair into a bob not to long ago - losing all my length. I hadn't really ever rocked a bob in the past so I am still adjusting, but it looks like it's the perfect style for you!
