The Best Month Of The Year

10.02.2014

Give me one minute to sound completely stereotypical, okay?

I love October.

I adore it.

October is by far my favorite month out of the year. The blistering southern heat begins to fade out, and the crisp fall nights make their way into our backyards. Stadiums fill with fans as football dominates the weekend. Pumpkin patches pop up throughout town, and pumpkin flavored everything makes it way onto the menu. It's pure perfection.

It doesn't take much to convince anyone that October is the best month out of the year, but in case you're on the fence about the subject, I'll do what I can to persuade you. Here are five reasons to love October as much as I do:

1 // It's my birthday month. Technically, that should be the one and only reason that matters, right? That's what I like to think at least. It's no secret to family and friends that I love my birthday. Like, really love my birthday. As in, it's my favorite holiday. For all those keeping tabs, my birthday is next Saturday and I will officially be a quarter of a century old. That means that the birthday celebrations will promptly begin tomorrow (my dad's birthday is today, so I will at least give him his day before I start bombarding everyone with mine. Happy Birthday, Dad!!), and the party won't slow down until at least a week after my actual day of birth. I can't wait!

2 // Boots and scarves. My two most favorite wardrobe pieces. It may have been 88 degrees here in Alabama yesterday, but that didn't stop me from breaking out the boots and scarf in honor of the first day of October. I would be lying if I told you that I wasn't dying of a heat stroke all day, but it was all worth it because it was October and I looked ready for Fall.

3 // Football. I mean, I know that we are already a month into football season and all, but October is when football really gets going. Rivalry games are starting and football is all that anyone talks about. In fact, Steven and I already have three (yes, three!) weekends in October scheduled to be out of town in honor of football weekends. First up is a trip to Oxford this weekend to watch Alabama take on Ole Miss and make history as College Gameday makes its arrival in Oxford for the first time ever. #RollTide

4 // Pumpkin And/Or Apple Flavored Anything. I'll admit, I haven't always been a fan of Pumpkin flavors, much less a fan of the infamous Pumpkin Spice Latte. Last year, however, my taste buds must have gone through a change because I slowly began adding all things pumpkin into my life. This year the obsession has begun. I can't get enough pumpkin candles, pumpkin flavors, and yes, even Pumpkin Spice Lattes in my life these days. Before my pumpkin craze, however, I was all about the Apple flavors. Apple Spice candles and spiced cider were two of my regular go-to options.

5 // Warm Comfort Foods and Drinks. It's time for one of my favorite meals to grace the diner table once more. It's chili season, my friends. My dad is famous for his chili around our house, and he passed his recipe on to me. I made it last year for the first time, and I'm excited to dive into the art that is constructing the perfect pot of chili once more. Not a chili person? No worries. There are still all things soup, hot chocolate, and apple cider to warm your bones on those crisp fall evenings.

  8. October is my absolute favorite, too! And WE HAVE THE SAME BIRTHDAY! I'll be one year older (the big 2-6) next Saturday as well, and I love, love, love to celebrate all.month.long. Mostly because no other family member has a birthday celebration in October! :)
