A Look Back At 2014 Through My Most Popular Posts

12.30.2014

If my blog had a theme for 2014 it would without a doubt be wedding, wedding and more wedding, so it's no surprise that topping the list of popular posts last year was anything and everything related to our wedding. What else made the list? Here are just a few of 2014's most popular blog posts.
Prior to saying our vows in April, I talked endlessly about wedding planning and my excitement surrounding the entire event. In between all the planning, however, I found time to recap my fabulous bridal shower and lingerie shower. Both posts proved to be very popular on the blog and on Pinterest. In fact, a picture from my lingerie shower has been repinned over 1,000 times! I have to give all the credit to my MOH and her creativity for that one.

Of course, what would be a wedding without a little hiccup in planning along the way? Thankfully, throughout the entire sixteen months of wedding planning, we only came across one very minor issue. I wrote about our incident with the invitations and it seemed that a lot of you were thankful that I could share my experience so you won't have the same mishap. All I can say is, remember the cost of stamps change depending on the size of the envelope that you are sending!

In March I took a little break from wedding planning so my bridesmaids could treat me to a fabulous Bachelorette trip to Nashville. We danced, we partied, and I came back with a post full of Bachelorette party must haves to share with you all. Are you planning to treat your favorite bride-to-be with a bachelorette party that she won't soon forget? Make sure you check out this post for a few ideas!

Between all the wedding talk that occurred on the blog last year, I took a little time to write a bit about spring fashion trends and all the clothes that I was lusting over. This post was also wildly popular on Pinterest and received hundreds of repins.  I circled back around to this idea in the fall, and it proved to be just as popular the second time around. P.S. I'm still lusting after most of those outfits that I posted!

Finally, while wrapping up all things wedding planning, I wrote a post to all my future brides out there on how to plan a stress free wedding. Are you in the process of planning your own dream wedding? I highly suggest you check this post out. There are a lot of good tips that helped me stay calm and focused during what many people would consider to be a highly stressful time.

After our amazing wedding day, I came back to the blog to share a quick wedding day sneak peek, and once we received our wedding pictures back from the photographer, I began pumping out wedding recap posts. Those wedding recaps were some of my most popular (and definitely my favorite!) posts of 2014. Some of the most viewed recaps included our wedding day preparation, the ceremony, the reception venue, the dinner, the first dances, the bouquet and garter toss, and the final recap where I revealed the pictures of Steven and I after we became Mr. and Mrs. I still find myself clicking back over to those posts to relive that amazing day!

Wrapping up what will be known as the year of the wedding, I recapped my experience Saying Yes To The Dress at Kleinfield Bridal in NYC. I spoke about this experience once right after the trip, but this time around I was able to talk more in depth about my experience and even unveil a few pictures that I hid tucked away until after the wedding day. That trip will always remain such a special memory for me and my mom!

Stepping away from all things wedding for a bit, I also talked on the blog a lot about the city where Steven and I have chosen to make our home. I grew up in Birmingham, and this city is near and dear to my heart. Birmingham is growing at an exponential rate, and it truly is a great place to call home. That's why when someone writes a post titled, Breaking Up With Birmingham, I felt that I had no choice but to give my rebuttal. It seems that others agreed with what I had to say, because that is still one of my most popular posts to date. After posting it to the blog I took a chance and submitted it to Al.com where it was published it in the editorial section. I have to say, it makes me pretty happy to see that this post received such praise.

The husband has always been a big part of the blog, but until recently he remained mostly behind the scenes. I thought it was about time he stepped out in front, so I decided to interview him and let his words take over for me for a day. Needless to say, he was thrilled when he found out his interview was one of my most popular posts to date. Maybe he needs to takeover more often?

A couple of high school throwback posts topped the list for most popular of 2014 as well. In February I wrote a letter to my high school self that a lot of you related to and then I followed that up in September with a linkup called, If You Knew Me In High School, where I talked all about my high school self and even managed to scrape up a few photos from myself back then.

In October I turned a quarter of a century old and highlighted my birthday by writing about 25 things that I've learned in 25 years. This seemed to be one post that so many of us could relate to.

Finally, what better way to wrap up 2014 than talking about marriage? After all, this was the year of the wedding! In November I wrote about 6 lessons that I've learned in our short 6 months of marriage. Some days it's hard to believe that it's already been (over) six months since Steven and I became man and wife, but some days it seems like we just said those vows yesterday. One thing is for certain, I can't wait for a lifetime of marriage bliss with my favorite person in the world!

2014 is going to be a hard year to beat. I got married to the love of my life, spent a week honeymooning in Jamaica, welcomed my adorable Godson into the world, started a new job, settled into married life, and still managed to find the best happy hours in town. So what does 2015 have in store for the Sparks'? I have my hopes and dreams, but I guess only time will tell! If it's anything like we have planned, then I just know 2015 is going to be fabulous!
