Be More Spontaneous

2.20.2015

It all started with a text message Wednesday afternoon. I was in need of a weekend getaway, and I could tell that my best friend and partner in crime felt the same. We were desperate to find somewhere, anywhere that we could sneak off to for a couple of days to let off some steam and recharge. After a bit of complaining back and forth to each other, we let the boys in on our little scheme that we were cooking up. And much to my husband's despair, a group text message was started.

Many messages were exchanged between us all as we searched for the perfect weekend getaway. Nashville was the first option on the table, but it was quickly put to rest when we discovered all the snow and ice that was expected there over the weekend. The same was then discovered for Gatlinburg. We had to stay somewhere South of Birmingham, our options were beginning to narrow. After a little more searching, and a lot more text messages exchanged, we had made a decision.
Saturday morning our little group of four will be making the drive to Mississippi to spend the weekend playing in the casinos and pampering ourselves in the spa. Sounds fun, right?! In less than a few hours a weekend road trip was planned out and booked. It was perhaps the quickest I have ever booked a hotel room.

You see, I am in no way, shape, or form a spontaneous person. I meticulously plan out every detail of my life, and trips of any sorts are usually planned weeks, if not months, in advance. This is definitely a first for me.

You may remember back at the beginning of January I wrote about 15 things that I vowed to do in 2015. Number 6 on that list was to be more spontaneous. It sounded like a good plan at the time, but I'll admit that it was a plan I never intended to follow through on. Honestly, even the word spontaneity stresses me out (mostly because I have to Google how to spell it before typing it out).

Yet here I am, being as spontaneous as I'll probably ever get. Granted, I did spend a good chunk of time reading reviews of this resort before actually hitting the "book now" button on Expedia Wednesday afternoon. I also spend a good amount of time yesterday reading about things to do and restaurants to make reservations for. So in all actuality, could this trip really be considered an act of spontaneity?

I still think so.

  5. Fun! I think it's still spontaneous in spite of your review reading and research! Weekend getaways are the best and I think should be mandatory every other month haha. Enjoy your time!

  7. This sounds like so much fun! I almost booked a spontaneous flight to Dallas a few days ago when I realized it was only $54, but then I realized I will be at a conference. So much for that ;)
