Everything Happens for a Reason

9.17.2013

If you had asked me on the day I graduated college where my life would be in a year, my answer would be drastically different than the life that I am currently living.
You see, when I graduated college last year I had just met Steven. We were knee deep in flirtatious text messages and romantic date nights. I had a special feeling about him on our very first date, but I couldn’t have imagined that a year later we would be planning our wedding and buying our first home together.
But here we are one year later getting ready to embark on a lifetime together. In less than seven months I will walk down the isle in the dress of my dreams and say “I do” to the man who is ten times more than anything I could ever dream of. A man that loves me unconditionally and pushes me to be a better person. A man that I can’t wait to come home to every night. A man that loves me more than I deserve. He is my rock, my support system, and my soul mate. He supports my dreams in life, even if those dreams aren’t exactly realistic right now.
I’m not quite sure how I got so lucky as to find Steven. I often times wonder how I could have wasted so many years on guys (guy) who weren’t worth two shits. But there was a reason I wasted six years of my life on scum. A reason that Steven wasted time on women crazier than words. Without those pasts, our lives may have never crossed paths. Without all of that, without the heartbreak and the anger, we wouldn’t be the people that we are today. Our journey in life could have taken a different path, a path that never led us together to begin with.
I’m a firm believer that “everything happens for a reason.” It may sound cliché, but I live my life whole heartedly believing that it’s true. There is a reason we had to endure the bad relationships. If anything, it has made us appreciate and value our relationship more. There is a reason Steven got laid off from a job that he loved and dedicated himself to for years. Without that devastation, he would have never moved to Alabama and our lives would have never crossed paths. Everything happens for a reason. We were brought together for a reason.
As I come home each evening to be greeted with kisses from my two fur babies and fiancé, I can’t help but smile. Smile at everything that has happened in my life to lead me up to this very moment. My life is a fairytale. I know as we embark down this road as husband and wife there will be trials and tribulations to overcome. Life isn’t going to go exactly as we planned. There will be surprises, miracles, and heartache along the way, but as those roadblocks unfold in our life we will sit back and know that God has a plan for our life and everything happens for a reason.

  1. Love this! I am exactly in the same boat as you. If you would have told me my life would be where it is now a year ago I would have probably laughed in your face and rolled over and went back to sleep haha. So glad everything is working out for you!
