New York Shenanigans

5.20.2013

Let me just start out by letting everyone know....
I SAID YES TO THE DRESS!

I found my wedding dress over the weekend in New York, and I am head over heels in love with it! The dress experience deserves a post all to itself, so I’m going to wait and share that with you on Wednesday.

For now, I will ramble on about all the other amazingly fun stuff we did over the weekend in NYC.

Thursday.

This little lady and I showed up at the airport Thursday morning wearing (semi) matching boots. Fringe overload. We looked like little twinkies walking around the city all day.

After soaking in some city life (and gulping down some alcoholic beverages) we walked back to the
hotel to clean up and change clothes before heading to Times Square to see Chicago on Broadway. I could spend an entire vacation in New York without stepping foot in Times Square one time and would be a very happy little girl. I really kind of dislike despise Times Square. But the show was amazing, so it more than made up for the fact that I hate to fight through tourist just to get to the theater.

Friday.

Friday morning we got ready and heading downtown to China Town. I thought my grandmother might have a freak out moment once we stepped out of the subway onto Canal Street, but she actually loved China Town. She was intrigued to say the least.

After China Town we walked up to SoHo for a delicious brunch topped with a few mimosas. Yum. A few hours of SoHo shopping later we headed back uptown for a few much needed martinis.
Anyone see a theme here...?

Friday night we had reservations for dinner at Il Cantinori. If you live anywhere near the city and have never been to Il Cantinori, I highly suggest you make plans to visit as soon as possible. They have amazing food topped with an even more amazing atmosphere. I first ate at Il Cantinori on vacation last year, and I promise to be back on my next trip. The restaurant was also featured on Sex and the City (Carrie’s 30th birthday). You would think that would make it a top tourist destination, but it is exactly the opposite. The restaurant still feels like a hidden gem tucked away in the village. I could go on and on about how amazing the restaurant is. But I won’t. Just make reservations and see for yourself. I promise it won’t disappoint.

After dinner my MOH and I hit the city for a little bar hopping.  Several drinks and a few shots later we stumbled our way back to the hotel into the first cab we could flag down.
Also, we determined that shots must be a southern thing. After downing our first shot of the night you would think we had gotten up on the bar and danced a choreographed number to Brittney Spears. What the hell?! The stare down we got from girls was less than amusing, and we received more than a couple of remarks from guys about how we “downed that shit like water.” It was a lemon drop.

Saturday.

Saturday was wedding dress day. Stay tuned for more on that experience on Wednesday. For now I’ll just say that it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I’m beyond happy that I finally found the dress of my dreams!

After saying YES to the dress we made dinner reservations to go out and celebrate. We once again had to venture over to the dreaded Times Square, but the restaurant we ate at was fabulous and worth fighting tourists to get to. I also highly recommend BlueFin to anyone planning a trip into the city. The sushi melts in your mouth.

After dinner we did a little more partying before saying goodbye to my beloved city.

Fact: If I didn’t have a wonderfully amazing fiancé waiting for me at home, there is no way my ass would have gotten on that plane to come home. New York truly is my second home, but I wouldn't trade my life here with the man of my dreams for anything!

As hard as it was to leave the city, I was more than happy to be home with my three boys last night. I missed them so much!

Linking up with Sami.

New York Here We Come!

5.15.2013

This will be my last post of the week because tomorrow morning my mom, grandmother, MOH, and I will be boarding a plane and heading NYC for a long weekend of delicious food, partying, shopping and most importantly, saying yes to the wedding dress!

That's right. I will be spending Saturday afternoon at the one and only Kleinfield Bridal finding my dream wedding dress.
No- I will not be on "Say Yes To The Dress." I thought about applying to be on the show, but I figured as soon as I get picked I will jinx myself into having the worst wedding dress experience known to man and will probably leave Kleinfields balling crying and looking like a fat cow in every dress I put on. I rather not ruin my dress experience by getting 15 minutes of fame on a reality show.
I know. I'm a little dramatic sometimes.

Last year around this time my mom and I ventured up to New York for a long weekend of shopping to celebrate my college graduation. After a long day in the city mom and I stopped in the hotel bar to have a drink before heading up to our room. While we were there we overheard and mom and daughter talking to the bartender. They were telling him that they had flown to NYC to find the daughter’s wedding dress and what a special trip it was for the both of them.

My mom and I decided right then and there that one day when I get married we too would fly up to New York and find my wedding dress. Little did either of us know that “one day” would be exactly a year later.

Steven and I met a few weeks after that NYC trip last year.

Funny how fate works sometimes, isn’t it?

Anyway, you kids have a fun the rest of the week.
I’ll be living it up in the Big Apple with this crowd...

Grumpy McGrumperson

5.02.2013

I’m a little crabby today. Probably because I stayed out drinking until way past my bedtime last night. What the hell else is new? Or because it feels like today should be Friday, but it’s only Thursday. Or because my mom is at the beach right now and I'm really jealous.

Whatever the reason, I’m over today.

So to cheer my little grumpy butt up I am going to dedicate today’s post to the exciting things coming up on my calendar.

This weekend:
The fiancé and I are road tripping to Atlanta to watch a little Braves baseball and stay in luxury at the Ritz.

Next weekend:
I plan to spend the entire duration of Mother’s day weekend at the lake enjoy sun, boating, day drinking, and of course, my mom.

The weekend after that:
I will be packing my bags and flying out for a long weekend in NYC to go wedding dress shopping with my mom, grandmother, and maid of honor, Rachael. This is for sure the thing on my calendar that I am most looking forward to.

The weekend after that:
I will be celebrating the long Memorial Day weekend from the lake. Three full days of sun, water, and family.

The weekend after that:
Shockingly, this is the first weekend in a month that I actually don’t have anything on my calendar. I assume something will probably come up between now and then, but if not I can almost guarantee I will be day drinking at the lake or visiting the future in-laws in Georgia.

The weekend after that:
I’ll be doing a little engagement party celebrations for one of my best friends and maid of honor. The invitation promised food, drinks, games, and fun, so I’m fully expecting to enjoy myself.

The weekend after that:
Another full weekend without any plans! Again, I’m sure plans will be made before then, but if not my ass better be at the lake soaking up some sun.
Or at home relaxing... Nah, who needs sleep these days?

The weekend after that:
The fiancé and I will be celebrating our one-year anniversary that weekend. We plan to do so by inviting ourselves along on my brother’s 21st birthday trip to New Orleans and then the beach.
An entire week of vacation. I’m in!

That pretty much sums up the next two months of my life. I’m exhausted just looking at that schedule.
I better stock up on k-cups and red bull.
